Intermountain Hospital in Boise, Idaho provides substance abuse treatment for adults through its New Start Center for Recovery and for adolescents through its Clean & Sober Teens (CAST) program.


New Start is focused on the assessed needs of adult patients who are seeking treatment for co-occurring mental health and drug or alcohol issues. It is designed with the intensity of in-patient treatment. New Start integrates psychiatric, medical, and nursing care with a balanced, flexible approach to the treatment of substance abuse. A variety of service components are offered as part of the recovery process.


Treatment is initiated with the medical and psychiatric stabilization of the patient in a safe and supportive environment. Following this 2-5 day detox and evaluation, the patient begins the New Start program.


The focus of treatment is ongoing psychiatric care with an additional strong emphasis on the process of recovery all provided on an independent, newly remodeled unit with a supportive, expertly trained, and highly qualified staff including a medical director who is an addictionologist.


Clean & Sober Teens (CAST) is a co-occurring disorder treatment track for adolescents and focuses on those who are using/abusing drugs and alcohol and have psychiatric or emotional problems as well. CAST is offered in conjunction with adolescent mental health services.


Components of CAST include acute alcohol/drug and psychiatric assessment, individualized treatment plans, individual treatment sessions as well as group sessions, family therapy, daily assessment and monitoring by a psychiatrist, and educational services to help keep each patient current with their home school requirements.


CAST staff has years of military experience including special focus on separation issues, reintegration, and developing resiliency skills.
